Instagram Bio Tips: What to Remove and What to Add for Better Growth
We put so much time into planning content, designing Reels, and writing captions… but your Instagram bio? It deserves just as much attention! ๐ฅ
Your bio is often someone’s first impression of your brand, and let’s be real, it can be the difference between someone hitting “follow” or clicking away.
So today, I’m breaking down the top things to take OUT of your bio and the must-haves you should be adding right now.
Save this for later, and start updating your bio with these tips today!๐๐ผ
โ 6 Things to Remove From Your Instagram Bio
Let’s clean it up, bestie! Less clutter. More clarity.
1. Threads Username
While Threads is great, your IG bio is not the place for this. It just adds noise and takes attention away from the value of your biz.
2. Category Label
This already appears on your profile and doesn’t need to take up space in your bio. Use those characters for something more meaningful!
3. Typed Location
Instead of writing it out, use Instagram’s contact button feature to add your location. It’s cleaner and way more effective.
4. Fancy Fonts
They may look cute, but Instagram can’t read them. That means your profile may not get categorized properly, which impacts visibility. Stick with simple fonts!
5. Clickable Hashtags or @tags
This is a big no. You want people to stay on your profile, not get distracted and click away. Save those for your content, not your bio.
6. Long Sentences
Keep it skimmable. Your bio should be easy to read at a glance — think bullet points, short phrases, and key info that gets straight to the point.
โ 3 Things to Add to Your Instagram Bio
Now that we’ve decluttered, let’s add in the good stuff, the pieces that make your profile WORK for you.
1. A Clear Call to Action
Have a link in your bio? Tell people what it is and what to do with it. Be direct! For example: “Grab the free checklist๐๐ผ” or “Shop the new drop๐๐ผ”
2. SEO-Friendly Keywords
Use words people might actually search for when looking for an account like yours. Think: “social media tips,” “wedding photographer,” “email marketing.”
Bonus tip: Write them naturally so they don’t feel out of place!
3. Who You Help + What You Do
Make this crystal clear! Let people know exactly what kind of content they can expect from you. If you can add a little personality here, even better.
Example:
“Helping busy biz owners grow with social media ๐ป
DM me ‘bio audit’ for a free review ๐ฌ”
